Was zeigen uns Wortspiele über das Funktionieren von Sprache und Kommunikation? Wie groß sind die kreativen Freiräume, die im Wortspiel genutzt werden - und wo gibt es Regeln und Grenzen des Spiels? Sprachspielerinnen und -spieler der Gegenwart präsentieren in Texten und Interviews ihre Gedanken zum kunstvollen Umgang mit Sprache und zu grundlegenden Eigenschaften des Spiels mit Wörtern und Sprache. Beiträge aus Bereichen wie Literatur, Film, Kabarett und Poetry Slam werden ergänzt durch Kurzbeiträge aus der Wissenschaft, die unterschiedliche Perspektiven der Analyse von Wortspielen aufzeigen. Der Band greift damit theoretische Fragen auf, die in den anderen Bänden der Buchreihe The Dynamics of Wordplay erörtert werden. Im Rahmen der Brückenschläge zwischen Wissenschaft und Praxis ergeben sich vielfältige Querverbindungen, und es zeigen sich übereinstimmende Beobachtungen wie auch sich wechselseitig ergänzende Perspektiven auf das Wortspiel in seiner Vielseitigkeit und Komplexität. What does wordplay teach us about the function of language and communication? What creative open spaces are used in wordplay, and what are the rules and limits that govern the game? The volume presents ideas of masters of wordplay from literature, film, cabaret, and poetry slams along with brief scientific analyses. The dialogue between theory and practice reveals the diverse complexity of language play.

Ce volume se dédie à l'analyse du jeu de mots dans des textes et contextes variés, explorant les différentes appréciations du jeu de mots au fil du temps ainsi que les intermédiaires entre jeux de mots et phénomènes annexes. Comme DWP 6, DWP 7 présente les aboutissements du colloque interdisciplinaire The Dynamics of Wordplay / La dynamique du jeu de mots (Trèves, 2016), qui font ressortir les dynamiques propres à ce champ de recherche. This volume is dedicated to the analysis of wordplay in a variety of texts and contexts. It explores the evolution of wordplay and its appreciation over time, as well as the intermediate stages between wordplay and related phenomena. Doelstellingen: De Nederlandse en Duitse vertaling van woordspelingen en humoristische stijl in het algemeen in de roman Right Ho, Jeeves van P.G. Wodehouse (1934) werden vergeleken. Er werd nagegaan welke soorten woordspelingen het vaakst voorkwamen en welke vertaalstrategieën de vertalers het vaakst gebruikt hadden. Middelen of methode: Er werd een selectie gemaakt van vijf humoristische passages uit Right Ho, Jeeves (50 pagina's). De woordspelingen uit die passages werden vergeleken met de Nederlandse en Duitse vertaling en er werd bepaald welke vertaalstrategie de vertaler toegepast had. Voor een classificatie van de soorten woordspelingen werden de werken van Delabastita (1996), Chiaro (2010), Folgado (2010) en Leppihalme (1996) geraadpleegd. De classificatie van vertaalstrategieën is gebaseerd op Delabastita (1996) en Chiaro (2010). Resultaten: Alliteraties bleken het meest voorkomende type woordspeling in het Engelse origineel te zijn. In beide vertalingen kwam de vertaalstrategie PUN > NON-PUN het vaakst voor, gevolgd door PUN > PUN en PUN > RELATED RHETORICAL DEVICE. In de Nederlandse vertaling werd de strategie PUN > NON-PUN meer gevonden dan in de Duitse vertaling. De Duitse vertaler paste PUN > PUN vaker toe dan de Nederlandse. De strategie PUN > RELATED RHETORICAL DEVICE werd ook tweemaal zoveel gevonden in de Nederlandse vertaling als in de Duitse.

'Jeux de mots' celebrates the creative power of wordplay from Rabelais to present times. Puns, portmanteaus, bon mots, neologisms, fetish-words: this collective volume focuses on literary wordplay in very different fields such as literary onomastics and constrained writing, both in prose and in poetry. Specialists in the field show how, from Rabelais to Richard Millet through Roussel and Roubaud and from Mallarmé to Fargue through Apollinaire and nonsense verse, prose and poetry explore the productivity of words, their power of metamorphosis and their capacity to make meaning shift.
